Nicholas Morris OAM is a Men's wheelchair basketball player for Australia, who was a member of the team that won gold at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta as well as a member of the 2000 Summer Paralympics wheelchair basketball squad. Nick was injured in a motorcycle accident at age 16 and credits his involvement in sport as the key to his rehabilitation.[1]
Nick was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to sport as a gold medallist in 1997.[2] He was also presented with an Australian Sports Medal in 2000 for his many years service to the Paralympic movement as a Basketball athlete.[3]
In his professional capacity, Nick sat on the Australian Standards Committee for Access provisions (AS1428) and is a director of Morris Goding Accessibility Consulting.[4] In 1999 he established accessibility.com.au, a web site dedicated to providing information about accessible venues, facilities, services, transport and news.[5]
In 2006 Nick co-invented the Vulcan Wheel, ergonomically designed one-piece extruded aluminium wheelchair wheel for use in general travel and sport. The invention was featured on the ABC New Inventors program.[6][7]
Currently Nick is a member of the International Paralympic Committee and consults for BOCOG.[8]
